Yuta Ikeya / 池谷宥太

Designer / design researcher / engineer.

As a designer, I explore the role of technology in the better cohabitation of human and nonhuman living beings. I employ Critical Design approaches to evoke discussions on the entanglements of humans, nonhumans, and technology, where the engineered artefacts realise rich and novel interactions.

Currently, I am a PhD candidate at the Industrial Design faculty of Eindhoven University of Technology (The Netherlands), researching the concept of aesthetics within a posthumanist design context. I acquired an MSc in industrial design from Eindhoven University of Technology after I shifted my career into design from engineering. I hold two MSc degrees in mechanical engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden) and Keio University (Japan).

In addition to research into the intersection of posthumanism and design, I have a passion for making things for my hobby such as photography. One of the examples is the world’s (arguably) first 3D-printed motion picture camera.
